Which Electric Actuator is Right for Me?

At the core of the oil industry’s move toward digital, low-emissions operations is the process of control—valves and valve actuation. In our effort to increase our automated, zero-emissions solutions, Kimray is offering two electric actuators, both effective, and both distinct. In this piece we’ll look at some specific features and typical applications of the Tritex II and the R2L.

The sleek new R2L Adapter is coupled with a Valvcon Electric Actuator. The Valvcon features 13-second actuation, full closed to full open. This package is easy to install and carries a Class 1, Div 1 explosion-proof rating. It also features a battery backup for power/signal loss, universal power supply, and an onboard heater for cold weather or humidity control. This combination provides a smart, durable, cost-effective solution for zero-emission valve control.

In the other corner, it’s the mighty Tritex II Electric Actuator.The Tritex features a lightning-fast 5-inches per second actuation, can be adjusted to any level along the spectrum, and fails in place. It can be used on Kimray’s entire line of HPCVs and carries a Class 1, Div 2 rating. It is powered by 12-48VDC and requires a computer to program, but does have custom seating capabilities. The Tritex delivers speed, precision and a long-lasting actuator that requires little to no maintenance.

Which is the right option for your operation? Many of our customers prefer the R2L for its cost and ease of installation. Others prefer the ultra-precision and speed of closure featured by the Tritex.
